IL’MARE - SELECTED WORK

September 1 - October 9, 201

Jennifer Day, Christopher Pendergast, Robert Farber, Heinke Bohnert, Amanda Fenlon, Roxanne Chardon, Karen Conway, Antonia Tyz Peeples, Robert Bolster, Alix Martinez, are a few of the artists visually interpreting Leopardi’s poem in this group exhibition exploring the last sweet days of summer.

ATELIER NEWPORT’s third group exhibition entitled, Il Mare, a group exhibition inspired by “L’infinito”, a poem written in 1819, by Giacomo Leopardi, examines our melancholy mood by the sea in late summer.

“Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind, Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, Let me forget about today until tomorrow.”
